South Hackensack is a township in Bergen County with a total area of .7 square miles. As of the United States 2000 Census, the township population was 2,249.

It is the only municipality in New Jersey to be split into three non-contiguous sections. The primary residential section is located adjacent to Hackensack, Little Ferry and Teterboro. A small section is nestled between Garfield, Lodi, Wallington, and Wood-Ridge, while a small portion containing only industrial properties is located in the Meadowlands between Carlstadt, Moonachie, and Ridgefield.
This atypical land divide was a result of the dividing and formation of the boroughs in the area at the time.

With its central location in Bergen County, South Hackensack residents enjoy some of the area’s best dining, shopping and entertainment activities, as well as top-rated medical facilities and educational institutions nearby.

The neighboring city of Hackensack offers top rated medial and professional services, including many doctors, specialists and healthcare facilities, and the well-known Hackensack Medical Center.

South Hackensack is located in close proximity to many major roadways, making it a fast and easy commute throughout Bergen County and to New York. Public transportation is available for those who prefer the bus or train. There are also several international airports nearby, including Newark International Airport not far to the south.

South Hackensack students in grades kindergarten through eight are served by the South Hackensack School District's Memorial School. High school students attend Hackensack High School as part of a sending/receiving relationship the township has with Hackensack Public School District.
