Occupying approximately 768 acres in Bergen County, Norwood is located about two miles from the New York State line and twenty miles from New York City. The population in Norwood as of the year 2005 was approximately 6,200 people, and residents enjoy the area’s good schools, convenient location and access to world class dining, shopping and services.

The name Norwood is derived from the old description “North-Woods”. The territory comprising Norwood was originally settled about 1670 by a dozen or more families mostly from Holland.

Norwood’s location offers its residents access to a variety of essential services and recreational activities throughout Bergen County. Excellent healthcare centers, employment opportunities and cultural attractions can be found throughout the borough.

Residents also enjoy a fast commute time to New York City, and public transportation by bus and train is a popular option for those traveling to the city. Three train stations, six airports, and one major bus station are all within twenty miles of the borough.

The Norwood school system serves students in grades kindergarten through eight. High school students attend the Northern Valley Regional High School at Old Tappan, which is a Blue Ribbon High School with a student to teacher ratio of 14:1. The high school ranked 25th out of 316 schools in New Jersey Monthly’s September 2006 profile of Top Public High Schools.
